Response Speed

The speed that the modem uses for responses to the DTE is called the Response Speed. Changing the response speed sets the modem port speed equal to the DTE port speed. The following information describes characteristics of setting the response speed.
1. The Response Speed is set to the AT Speed each time a command is entered from the

   DTE.

2. After a reset (power-up reset, etc.), the Response Speed is set equal to the AT

Speed at which the last &Wn command was given.

3. When a call is cleared (modem hangs up) the Response Speed is set to the AT Speed

after the NO CARRIER or other result code, before the modem enters the idle state.

4. The CONNECT xxxx result code normally indicates the next desired DTE port speed

(xxxx). However, the W2 command or S95 can change the meaning of xxxx to the line

speed. If the CONNECT result code is reporting the desired DTE interface speed, the

Response Speed is set to the connect speed (when a call is connected) after the

CONNECT result code is sent to the DTE. If W2 or the corresponding S95 bit is set,

then the Response Speed is not changed after the CONNECT result code is sent to the

   DTE.

Note: Communications software has two choices, (1) change port speed to match CONNECT result code or (2) ignore the result code. For this reason, the command combinations &Q5W2S36=1 and &Q5W2S36=5 should be avoided. Since communication software is normally set to ignore the CONNECT result code speed when W2 is used, if the outcome of a handshake is V.14 (async), then the DTE will not be able to read the data stream but will be able to read the NO CARRIER result code.
