Result Codes
A result code is sent to the DTE in response to the execution of a command
line, and it may also result from some other conditions (e.g., RING) as
described later.
Every command line causes one result code message to be sent to the DTE.
Normally, this is the OK result code, but there are two general exceptions
when it is not: (1) if the execution of a command results in an error, then
the ERROR result code is produced, and (2) if call establishment or carrier
handshaking function is initiated by a command, then one of the other result
codes is produced. These other result codes are specified by the command
definitions in the sections to follow.
Result codes may be turned-off or turned-on by the Qn command. Result codes
are sent in either a verbose mode or in a numeric short form, depending
upon which Vn command is in effect. The modem usually sends one result code,
such as OK, to the DTE after executing a command. The B command is an exception;
several result codes may be sent after a connection is established.
The DCE accepts a new command 0.5 ms after the last character of a result
code or group of result codes has been sent to the DTE. The last character
is usually Ctrl-J (line feed).
