Negotiation Progress Messages

Hayes products report special result codes during error-control negotiation. Use the W command (not the W dial modifier) to display these messages. The factory setting disables these messages (W0) to avoid conflict with software programs that do not support this additional level of call progress monitoring.

Negotiation progress messages are reported in the following order:

CARRIER

PROTOCOL

AUTOSTREAM

COMPRESSION

CONNECT

If AutoStream is not used, no message is reported.

71 PROTOCOL: An error-control connection was negotiated with LAPB protocol.
ERROR- This protocol is the one used by the first V-series products.
		CONTROL/ LAPB

72 PROTOCOL: A half-duplex error-control connection was negotiated with LAPB protocol.
ERROR-CONTROL This protocol is used by the first Vseries products communicating at 9600
		/ LAPB/HDX bits/s.

73 PROTOCOL: An error-control connection is negotiated using the Hayes Asynchronous
ERROR- Framing Technique (AFT). AFT connects modems such as Smartmodem 1200 that
CONTROL/LAPB/ do not communicate synchronously across the telephone line. AFT enables an
		AFT error-control protocol.

74 PROTOCOL: An error-control connection using the X.25 protocol is established with a
		X.25/LAPB carrier speed of 1200, 2400, 4800, or 9600 bits/s.
