S53 - Global PAD Configuration
Description
This register defines a set of behavior switches that control all PADs
in the X.25 mode. The PAD prompt character is an asterisk (*) unless any
bit other than bit 0 has value 1; then the prompt character is a hyphen
(-). The fixed user interface, selected by bit 2, provides software and
users a consistent PAD command interface regardless of the current PAD parameter
settings except in data transfer state. The fixed user interface provides:
Transmission of all PAD result codes, including the PAD prompt
Sets echo control via the E command
Fixes editing characters
a) delete character is defined by S5
b) delete line character is Control-X
c) line display character is Control-R
Sets echo mask to mask only the editing characters.
The fixed PAD control interface, selected by bit 3, provides the control
necessary for applications where software must maintain total control over
the PAD regardless of current parameter settings. The fixed control interface
provides:
1. disable PAD recall using a character (override PAD parameter 1)
2. disable all PAD flow control (override PAD parameters 5, 12)
3. disable carriage return and line feed padding (overrides PAD parameter
9, 14)
4. disable line folding (parameter 10)
5. use editing PAD result codes for display terminals (override PAD parameter
19)
6. disable page wait (PAD parameter 22)
7. disable execution of ANS and EXEC strings
8. disable EXEC command
The default unavailable channel allocation bit is used to reset the value
of national parameter 108 to zero every time a PAD profile is loaded. The
AT command override bit, operational only with the fixed user interface,
enables echo and uses Control-H as the backspace character.
