Conclusion (Transparent XON/XOFF)
When properly implemented, Transparent XON/XOFF Local Flow Control permits
a fully-functional flow-controlled interface even when only three conductors
are present (TD, RD, and Signal Ground). Versatile software may do the following:
1. Use the &T19 cable test feature of Hayes Vseries modems to determine
whether RTS/CTS flow control is available
2. Select &K5 operation for Transparent XON/XOFF flow control if RTS/CTS
is unavailable.
Selecting transparent XON/XOFF flow control allows the user to continue
data transfer using any protocol or data contents without concern for possible
interference with the XON/XOFF flow control scheme.
