CHAPTER 3. New Features in Adaptive Server Anywhere 6.0
This chapter describes the major new features included in Adaptive Server Anywhere Version 6.
Some new features are obvious once you start reading the documentation: For example, several chapters are devoted to Java features, which open many new possibilities for the use of the database.
Other new features are less obvious. In particular, the internal mechanisms for data management and communication have been enhanced in several ways—multi-processor support, enhanced query optimization, and redesigned client/server communications protocols. Such enhancements do not require much documentation; they are internal to the DBMS, and you do not need to do much (or in some cases anything) to take advantage of them.
This chapter provides an overview of the new features included in Adaptive Server Anywhere, with pointers to places in the documentation where more information can be found.
