Modem Functions
Hayes modems provide auto dial and auto answer functions in addition to
transmission and reception of data signals. The modem goes off-hook, dials
numbers, connects to a distant modem (handshakes), modulates data from a
local DTE for transmission, and demodulates received signals from a distant
modem. The modem also provides many auxiliary functions, including several
types of tests. The AT command set facilitates control and observation of
modem functions.
