This section introduces the basic process that a modem uses to connect through
the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) to a remote modem. Additionally,
this section presents the light-emitting diode (LED) on a Hayes modem and
the DTE interface. If you are familiar with these concepts, then you can
